नागरी लिपि, जो ब्राह्मी लिपि ही एक शाखा है, इसका विकास गुप्त काल के दौरान हुआ और फिर देवनागरी लिपि का विकास नागरी लिपि से हुआ। और रोमन लिपि का विकास रोमन साम्राज्य के समय हुआ। रोमन लिपि को लैटिन लिपि भी कहा जाता है।
